The Meaning of Home Competition sparked young students ranging from grades four to six from across Canada to write a short story or poem in partnership with Genworth Financial to creatively express what they define as a “home.” Contestants were given the chance to win $60, 000 to donate to a Habitat for Humanity build of their choice. Prince Edward Island ended the contest last year with two finalists winning $1, 000 in donations each, which were then placed into the PEI community builds.
Submissions have been made as far as Ontario. Currently the contest running this year is still open for the duration of Oct. until Nov. 12. Genworth Financial has donated the funds possible to run the competitions as well as provide man hours to the Kensington on-site build with Habitat for Humanity.
