Partnership sees Provincial Credit Union donate land in Alberton to Habitat for Humanity PEI; creates mortgage model that supports Habitat PEI Homeowner journey.

ALBERTON, PE, July 29, 2026 – Provincial Credit Union (PCU) and Habitat for Humanity PEI (Habitat PEI) are excited to officially announce a partnership that supports Islanders in their home ownership journey and provides affordable housing opportunities in Prince County.

As part of this partnership, PCU has donated a parcel of land located in the heart of Alberton to Habitat PEI. This land will serve as the future location of multiple affordable housing units, offering families homes near amenities and community resources.

This partnership also features the creation of shared-equity mortgages between Habitat PEI homeowners and PCU. These mortgages grant Habitat PEI homeowners the chance to move into their homes by making affordable monthly payments and building equity through their Habitat Homeownership journey. Additionally, it ensures that Habitat PEI homeowners will realize the long-term benefits of homeownership while guaranteeing that Habitat PEI can continue to serve even more Islanders in the future. Since June of 2025, eight Habitat PEI homeowners have benefited from shared-equity mortgages with Habitat PEI and PCU, with an estimated three more to be finalized by the end of 2026.

Alberton residents are invited to join Provincial Credit Union and Habitat for Humanity PEI on Thursday, August 27 to take part in a community BBQ and celebration at PCU’s Alberton branch, located at 566 Main Street. Details around the housing project’s groundbreaking, as well as the application process for prospective Habitat PEI Homeowners, will be announced at a later date.
