Press Release: Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Island celebrates handing over the keys to the new family in Georgetown, PE.
Prince Edward Island – On June 29th, 2023, Habitat for Humanity PEI will hand over the keys to its newest Habitat Homeowner in Georgetown, PE. The family’s new home is one of Habitat PEI’s first use of modular construction. Habitat for Humanity PEI broke ground on this project on October 7th, 2022. Since then, numerous individuals volunteered their time on the build site alongside Premier Island Homes and many other dedicated contractors.
“As a single mom working three jobs, time after time, Chelsey continues to amaze us with her positive outlook on life and determination to face challenges and achieve her goals. Through her commitment to her work, family, community, and volunteer efforts, she has demonstrated her dedication to Habitat for Humanity PEI and drive to attain homeownership. We are very excited to welcome Chelsey and her son to Habitat for Humanity PEI and look forward to supporting them along this journey of affordable homeownership.” – Bev Beaton, Habitat PEI Homeowner Services Manager
Families for Habitat for Humanity homes are selected on the basis of need, their ability to repay a no-down payment, no-interest mortgage, and their commitment to volunteer 500 hours toward their home and community.
Through the National Housing Strategy’s National Housing Co-Investment Fund, the Government of Canada has invested $50,000 into this home, bringing Habitat for Humanity one-step closer to creating 1,117 new affordable homes across Canada.
“Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Habitat for Humanity PEI to help more Canadians achieve their dream of homeownership. Projects such as this one in Georgetown have a tremendous impact on the lives of families and their communities. We are deeply committed to working with our many partners to create more affordable housing options for Canadians across the country. This is just one of the many ways our government’s National Housing Strategy continues to ensure no one is left behind. We wish Chelsey and her son all the best in their new home.” — The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion
“Our Government is dedicated to working with organizations like Habitat for Humanity PEI to build the safe, affordable housing necessary for healthy, sustainable communities.
